Today Hamo Dell (Ngāti Porou) releases solo track ‘Little Fun’ featuring soul heavyweight Sammy Johnson. Written by Johnson himself alongside luminary songwriter and producer, Matt Sadgrove (Sons of Zion).
After sharing stages on some of New Zealand’s biggest festivals during Hamo’s long stint as lead vocalist for NZ reggae act, Tomorrow People, the pair’s combined vocal power merges to administer a smooth, funk-laced earworm.
Dell’s distinctive rich vocals sing of Johnson’s lighthearted experiences using dating apps; “Cause we both know what it was from the start, It’s just a little fun”.
Of the collab Hamo say’s “I’ve been lucky enough to work with Sammy before but each time he amazes me. He’s one of those people that no matter how many times you hear him sing or see him create you’re always in awe.”
This following a stunning performance by Hamo at this years Rolling Stone New Zeland Awards in August where the star sang alongside cultural icon Stan Walker on their Platinum single ‘Choose’ (12 million global streams). 2021 saw the release of Hamo’s ‘Feeling Alright’ which reached #16 on the Hot 40 chart, followed by Waiata Anthems ‘Ora Ai’, released in Hamo’s first language Te Reo Māori, which peaked #14 on the Hot NZ chart.
